Student frequently asked questions

How much does it cost?
You must purchase the remote unit ("clicker") at the bookstore for $21. You must then go to eInstruction's web site to activate the clicker for $10 each semester . The Student Technology Fee has supported this activation fee since Spring of 2007. Activation is good for as many of your classes as are using the system during that semester. If you purchase a new McGraw-Hill textbook, you receive a discount on the activation fee. The bookstore will buy back the clickers for $10.50 and will resell used clickers for $15.25. Media Services will maintain a list of courses for which the system has been adopted to give you some guidance on whether to keep or sell your clicker.

Should I sell my clicker back or keep it?
On this site, there is a list of all the instructors who have adopted CPS and the course in which they are using it to help you decide whether to keep or sell back your clicker. You will also receive this list by email toward the end of the semester.

Where's the serial number on my clicker?
On the new units with the LCD display, it is displayed when you turn the unit on. On the older style with just the LED lights, remove the battery cover, it's at the bottom of the battery holder.

What should I use for my username and ID number when I register my clicker?
User your Titan ID number and email username (without the @uwosh.edu). It would also help if you listed your name the same way it appears in TitanWeb and D2L. If you've already registered you can go back to eInstruction.com and change these and it will automatically update in your instructors' rosters.

How do I change my account information

Why can't I join a session in my class?
The most common reason is that you either didn't enter your clicker serial number when you registered for the class or entered it incorrectly. Click here for directions on how to change your account information. If you can't update the serial number or get a message that it's already registered, call eInstruction's toll-free support number at 1 888-333-7532 (within the hours of 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM Monday - Thursday, 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM Friday CST, or by email). If the serial number is correct, you may have a malfunctioning clicker. You can exchange it at the bookstore.

Does the semester activation fee include interim?
When you pay the activation fee, you have a 45 day window to add another class. Therefore if you pay the activation fee at the beginning of the semester, it will not count for interim. However, if you pay at the beginning of winter interim, it will also be good for spring semester.

What do the lights on my clicker mean?
The newer system displays all informtion in the LCD display The older clickers use a pair of LED lights to display information
A flashing red light. You have not joined a course yet. When your instructor begins using the system, press join, the channel number displayed on the screen (be sure to include the initial zero if there is one) and press send. The red light will flash rapidly and the green light will glow momentarily when your entry has been confirmed. While you are joined to a session, the green light will flash dimly.
A glowing green light. When you enter a response and press send, the green light will glow for six seconds. If you reenter the same response and press send, the glowing green light will confirm that both answers were the same.
A glowing red light and one green flash. When you send a second response that was different from the first (you changed your answer or made an error in confirming your answer), the green light flashes once and the red light glows for six seconds.
Both lights glowing. When you turn the clicker on by pressing the button at the bottom of the pad, both lights will glow when it comes on. In order to turn the clicker off, hold down the power button for four seconds. Both lights will glow until the unit shuts off. (This is to prevent you from accidentally turning the clicker off in mid class). The clicker will turn off automatically when it has been out of the range of a receiver for five minutes.

What if I lose my clicker?
You'll have to buy a new one.Your activation fee for the semester will still be good. You can change your clicker serial number on-line.
