A grade scheme allows D2L to display letter grades instead of percentage grades. A grade scheme is necessary to use the egrading integration with TitanWeb.

Creating a grade scheme by selecting or copying an existing scheme

  1. Select image:Gradesschemes.gif Grades Schemes from the left menu.
    • Some standard grade schemes are already created. Those without an * are consistent, for instance, each grade category drops by 5%. Those with an * are irregular. To see the scheme, simply select its name. To choose an existing grade scheme instead of making your own, select its checkmark and confirm in the popup.
  2. The easiest way to create your own scheme, is to copy and modify an existing scheme. Select Image:schemecopy.gif Copy at the top.
  3. Select the radio button in front of a scheme. Do not select Pass/Fail unless you have a P/F course. Do not select one with "graduate" in the title unless this is a graduate-level course.
  4. Scroll down and give the New Scheme Name.
  5. Select Copy in the lower right.
  6. Leave the letters as is; you must use capital letters (A, A-, B+ not a, a-, b+ and not A, A/B, B)
  7. The lowest possible percentage a student can get and still get that letter grade is entered under Start %. For example, F 0, D- 60, D 63, D+ 67.
  8. You may assign a Color to each grade range. This will display to you in the gradebook. It can give you a quick sense of whether a student (or the class) is doing well or poorly. Generally, people choose reds and yellows for lower grades, and blues and greens for higher grades. You may need to experiment to find colors that you can easily see on your monitor.
  9. Ignore Assigned Value %. It will be auto-filled when you save.
  10. A complete grade scheme might look like

  11. Save in the bottom right when done.
  12. You aren't quite finished yet! You need to set this new scheme as the course scheme.
  13. Select the Set As Default checkmark next to your new scheme.
  14. If you want a scheme to apply to a specific item or just the final grade, this can be set. For an item, go to its properties and use the override section. For the final grade, go to its properties and select a different scheme.
  15. To edit a scheme, make sure it is not the default. If it is, select the default Percentage scheme.
    1. Select the scheme you want to edit. When finished, go back and select it as the course scheme with the Set As Default checkmark next to it.
