How do I export grades to Excel

When exporting grades from D2L to Excel you will notice that the leading zeroes from StudentID numbers have disappeared, this prevents you from importing the grades back into D2L. The following method will allow Excel to accept the leading zeroes.

Before: Export File Before After: Export File After

PC

  1. Go to the Grades Section in your course
  2. Select the Export Grades button
  3. Click Export to CSV
  4. A window should appear telling you that your file is ready to download, download the file
  5. The file should open in Excel
  6. Open a new Excel Workbook
  7. Select Data from the top toolbar
  8. Select Import External Data (or Get External Data for Excel 2007)
  9. Select Import Data (or Import Data from Text for Excel 2007)
  10. Find the file and select it, click open
  11. The Text Import Wizard should open
  12. Select Next
  13. Select the Comma checkbox and select next
  14. Wizard Step 2
  15. Select the Text option and select finish
  16. Wizard Step 3
  17. A window will open asking you into which cells you would like the text placed, hit Ok

Mac

  1. Go to the Grades Section in your course
  2. Select the Export Grades button
  3. Click Export to CSV
