It's easy to email everyone, individuals, or small groups in your class. D2L offers a web-based form to send email; it is not an email program. You must include your email address as a recipient to receive a copy of emails sent through D2L. Note: We do not recommend use of the email links on the classlist page.

  1. Select Email in the upper left/middle of the NavBar.
  2. Select Address Book at the top.
  3. In the popup window, select your recipients.
    • Note: Make sure the "Filter By:" dropdown is set appropriately, entire class vs. a small group
  4. If you are emailing...
    • Everyone, select the topmost checkbox in the address book.
      • Warning: If you have more than 20 students, change the display setting in the upper right corner of the list so you can see everyone at once. Only the individual you see will be included in the email.
    • One or a few students, select individual checkboxes.
    • Small groups or sections, select the group name from the Filter By dropdown menu. The address book will refresh sorted by group/section. Select the top checkbox to select everyone in the group. NOTE: If you created groups before anyone dropped the course or your college/department has D2L admins, those folks may appear in the list. To email just the group, uncheck the other users. Or send email from the Classlist. Filter the Classlist to show the desired group and then select "Email everyone on this tab." Everyone will be in the TO field, however, and we recommend that you cut them from there and put them in the BCC field instead (see below for why).
  5. Select the BCC link to put everyone's email address in the BCC field. (When emailing one student, feel free use the TO button.)
    • Using the Blind Courtesy Copy has two benefits:
      • If a student uses Reply All, they will not accidently send a private message to the entire class.
      • In large classes, students will not have to scroll past all those email addresses to find your message.
  6. Include or type your complete email address (including @uwosh.edu) in the TO field. If you do not, some spam filters will discard your message. It is a good habit to get into to make sure you always receive a copy of all course emails.
  7. Select image: emailaddrcpts.gif Add Recipients in the bottom right. The popup window will close and your recipients will be in the main composing window.
  8. Compose your email as usual. Note that you can include one or more attachments.
  9. Select Send at the bottom right when finished.
