WinZip

When wanting to upload multiple files into D2L, you need to compress (or package) these files into one zipped file which can then be imported into D2L. This step is necessary to keep the relationship of all of the associated files intact so that the pages will display properly. To do this on a MAc, select the folder or files, command-click and choose to create an archive.

To do this on a PC, you will need a program called WinZip, which can be downloaded from WinZip. WinZip is a Windows program that is used to create ZIP files. This program is "shareware," which means there is a nominal fee for its use, which you or your department must pay to the developer of the software if you download and use it, as explained in the software License Agreement.

To install WinZip, perform the following steps. If you already have installed WinZip, proceed to the next paragraph.

  1. To download WinZip, go to http://www.winzip.com. If you want to get back to this page easily, open the link in a new window by right-clicking and selecting the appropriate option from the pop-up window.
  2. Once the WinZip program file is downloaded, double-click on the file to install the program.
  3. During the installation, when prompted to "Select Wizard or Classic...", select Start with WinZip Classic and select Next.
  4. Accept the default selection for all other options, then select Finish to complete the installation.

Create a single "Zipped" file containing the parts of the presentation

  1. Start WinZip.
  2. Select the New button on the toolbar.
  3. Select the directory you wish to create the ZIP file in. DO NOT CREATE THE ZIP FILE IN THE SAME DIRECTORY THAT THE ORIGNAL FILES ARE IN.
  4. In the File name box, type the name of the presentation and select OK.
  5. In the Add window, locate and double-click on the folder containing the web page version of the presentation and its associated files.
  6. In the Folders section of the Add window (lower right), select the check box next to Include subfolders.
  7. Select the Add with wildcards button. You will see a list of the presentation files appear in the WinZip window.
  8. Close WinZip.
