How do I copy a course into a new site or semester
From D2L Wiki
It's fairly easy to replicate your content into a new course site for a new semester or to another section. You can copy an entire course or selected tool or specific items (such as one quiz or one content topic) from any site to any site for which you are the instructor. Just do the following in the NEW course. You will need to do this process for all courses, every semester if you want to reuse content, or any other parts of your course.
- Choose Edit Course in the lower right of the nav bar.
- Choose Import/Export/Copy Components, the fourth item on the list.

- Choose the first radio button for Copy Components from another Org Unit.

- Choose Next in the lower right.
- If showing, select
Hide the current course components. This listing, never used by anyone as far as I know, will now not show on any of your courses, making this process easier in the future.
- Select the site from which you want to copy in one of the following ways.
- If you don't have many courses listed in D2L, use the drop down list of courses.

The long code will indicate which course number, section, and semester the site is from: 0590 = fall 04, 0595 = spring 05, 0598 = summer 05, 0600 = fall 05, 0605 = spring 06, 0608 = summer 06, 0610 = fall 06, 0615 = spring 07, 0618 = summer 07, 0620 = fall 07, 0625 = spring 08, 0628 = summer 08, 0630 = fall 08, 0635 = spring 09, 0638 = summer 09, 0640= fall 09, 0645 = spring 10, 0648 = summer 10. - You can also search your courses. Select
Search for Offering. In the popup, enter one or more search terms for the course such as part of the title, course number, semester code, or TitanWeb class number. In the results, the semester name will be listed in the right column. Select the radio button for the course you want to copy from. Then select Add Selected in the lower right corner of the popup window.
- If you don't have many courses listed in D2L, use the drop down list of courses.
- After selecting a course, the page will refresh and show you a list of what's in the course to copy.
- You can copy the entire course or selected portions.
- To copy the entire course, select the checkbox at the top of the list for Select All Components. Every tool and "Copy all items" will be selected.

- To copy only selected materials
- Choose the checkboxes for entire course areas or the radio button within an area to choose individual items.
- Select Next.
- The next screens will allow you to choose individual items, with a separate screen for each course area. YOU MUST SELECT COURSE FILES ALONG WITH CONTENT OR THE CONTENT LINKS WILL NOT WORK.
- To select an entire module, select the checkbox in front of it.
- To select individual items, select
the plus sign in front of the module. It will open up and you can select specific topics. Or select Expand All to open all modules.
- To select individual course files, you must know what file matches to the chosen content topic. You can find this out in Manage Content. Edit an item. Just above the editor you see the
file name.
- Select Next until you have selected all items you want to copy.
- To copy the entire course, select the checkbox at the top of the list for Select All Components. Every tool and "Copy all items" will be selected.
- You will get a confirmation screen and the opportunity to modify your selections. When done, select Next.
- YOU MUST SELECT COURSE FILES ALONG WITH CONTENT OR THE CONTENT LINKS WILL NOT WORK.
- You do not need to select Done on the final page.
- After the confirmation page concludes, return to your course via the nav bar.
- Voila! Your content is in your new course!
- If you copied your Grades, please note that some things do not copy, primarily settings. You will have to go through all sections of Grades Settings (in particular calculation options if you use weighted), and choose a grade scheme (it will copy, but will not be selected as the course scheme).
- If you receive an error message, first, try again. If it happens again, it is probably due to a corrupted file in the file manager. In step four, select all, then unselect Course files. If it now works, contact us for assistance in moving the files; include in your email the two course names and semesters.
